How It Works

MATCHING WORD TO PICTURE
The teacher directs the child's attention and focus onto text by matching word to word on the lotto board.

The child is now focusing on text and begins to understand that words carry meaning. The child's interest in learning words can be reinforced by playing simple word games such as, "Let's play a game", where the teacher asks the child to try and recognise words in a fun way.

Parental involvement provides a further incentive for children to continue with their reading as actitivies. The child is delighted that he can "read" words for Mum or Dad.
